Maintenance costs for Mater Dei Hospital in 2010 amounted to €11,742,612.68, Health Minister Joseph Cassar told Opposition MP Anġlu Farrugia in reply to a parliamentary question.

The total cost could be broken down into materials and supplies, repair and upkeep, management of facilities, maintenance of medical equipment and maintenance of vehicles.

Answering another question by Dr Farrugia, Dr Cassar said maintenance of Sir Paul Boffa Hospital had amounted to €207,880 in 2007, €222,722 in 2008, €233,947 in 2009 and €242,670 in 2010.

For the respective years, maintenance for St Vincent de Paul Residence had cost €207,987, €255,627, €166,457 and €229,398.

St Luke’s Hospital had cost €61,574 and €27,446 for 2007 and 2008 respectively.

Even though Dr Farrugia had not asked, Dr Cassar said that for 2009 and 2010, Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital had cost €325,002 and €297,794 respectively.

In 2009, the expenses for the Pharmacy of Your Choice system had amounted to €2,695.
