Saluting Battery refurbishment in final stages
Two old cannon centre pivots were placed in the corners of the saluting battery overlooking Grand Harbour today as the refurbishment of the site enters its final stages.
The old saluting battery guns were removed and the surface of the saluting battery was pulled up earlier this year for waterproofing to stop leaks into the War Room below.
Once completed at the end of this month, the Saluting Battery will look very different to what it was up to a few weeks ago, Mario Farrugia, director of Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna said.
The work was delayed for two months because of a number of problems.
The gun centre pivots, thought to date to the 1820s, were removed from their places in 1924. Period guns will eventually be added to them.
