A man caught smoking inside a concert venue bit a policeman twice on the finger after refusing to give his particulars.

Jason Zerafa, 25, of Ġzira, was yesterday given a suspended jail term after admitting to his actions.

He was inside the MFCC at Ta’ Qali during the Fat Boy Slim concert on Saturday when he was spotted smoking by police officers. When they asked him for his particulars he refused to give them. When the police moved to arrest him he twice bit the finger of PC Saviour Chircop.

During his arraignment yesterday, Mr Zerafa pleaded guilty to slightly injuring the officer, smoking inside a public area, disobeying orders and failing to give his particulars to the police.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera jailed him for nine months suspended for one year after taking into consideration his admission.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted while lawyer Anġlu Farrugia appeared for the accused.
