Air Malta have changed the goal posts for frequent flyers. I have been a “permanent” member of Flypass for the past nine years, having earned enough miles to get to Diamond status, and, lo and behold, I try to get into the lounge before my flight and I am told I do not have enough miles and that I have also been downgraded.

Now I can understand any other frequent flyer programme doing this as this is how they work; you need to keep up your miles to keep your status or climb up the ladder.

For some reason, Flypass did not work like this and when you got to Diamond status it was permanent (or so I thought).

It is no problem for me but I at least expected an e-mail or a call to say they had now changed my status and I would need more miles to get back to the Diamond level.

So permanent members of Flypass may now not be so permanent after all.
