Contrasting fortunes for Marsa against touring teams

Another week full of cricket for the Marsa team. New touring team Ram CC played a three-game series while a fourth game was played against Baerum.

On Thursday, the first game was played in which the home team batted first in the 20-over game. A superb innings by Joy Ghoseroy, 62 runs, Malcolm Crabbe 37 and 23 from Andy Naudi helped the score to a healthy 179.

Veren was the most successful bowler while Nikesh, Kirat and Niraj all took a wicket each.

Ram replied strongly through the efforts of Kirat (33), Sandip (20) and Sanjay (17) but fell short by 39 runs.

For Marsa, George Agius, Gordon Hewitt and Ghoseroy were the main wicket takers with two each.

On Saturday, Ram batted first and posted a modest 158 runs from their 40 overs.

Niraj batted well and scored 46 runs, including one six and three fours. Nikesh added 28, including two massive sixes, as Raj chipped in with a patient 27 runs.

For Marsa, Mike Caruana took four wickets and Kevin Krishna two.

In reply, the Marsa team failed miserably and fell short by 31 runs. Nowell Khosla top-scored with 22 runs, Ronnie Sacco 17 and John Grima 15.

For the visitors, Dinesh, Nikesh, Veren and Tarrun all took two wickets each as Ram tied the series 1-1.

On Sunday, the home team batted first. After losing a few early wickets, Justin Brooke (50 runs), Andy Naudi (54), Derek Ali (31) and Ghoseroy (29) consolidated the score and Marsa totalled a useful 206 from their 40 overs.

For Ram, Kirat and Mickey were the most successful bowlers with two wickets each.

In reply, Ram put on a fantastic run chase thanks to the efforts of Nikesh (42 runs), Danny (34), Mitesh (23), Kirat (22) and Dinesh (16). However, despite their valiant efforts, the visitors fell short by 11 runs.

Ghoseroy was the main wicket-taker with four, while Agius and Andy Lenard took two each.

Marsa clinched the series 2-1.

Whitewash

The previous Tuesday, Baerum completed a series whitewash against the home team in a nailbiting game that saw the visitors win by the minimal margin of one run.

On Saturday, the Chairman’s team take on the Captain’s team in a 20-over game in preparation of an upcoming tournament to be played in Belgium.
