Contractor Zaren Vassallo confirmed again today that  he had made donations to both political parties.

Reacting to comments made by Joseph Muscat, who yesterday denied that Mr Vassallo had given donations to the Labour Party, Mr Vassallo said: "I confirm what I said. I invite him (Dr Muscat) to come over so that I can privately show him where the money went."

Mr Vassallo revealed that he made donations to the two major political parties in an interview in The Sunday Times last Sunday. He said he donated equally to both parties.

Mr Vassallo said that in 44 years of business, he received calls for donations from party clubs, candidates and mayors. This, he said, was a normal thing.

He would not specify if the donations were made in this legislature or in previous years.

Mr Vassallo said that his political allegiances were known (Mr Vassallo was Nationalist mayor in Mosta) and when tenders were awarded, he was sometimes turned down by the government - so that it would not look bad - even though his tender bid would be the cheapest.

Mr Vassallo made today's comments after a business breakfast.

In a reaction a Labour Party spokesman said that the PL stands by Dr Muscat's remarks that it never received donations by Mr Vassallo. The spokesman said Mr Vassallo was changing his versions and now was speaking about a period of 44 years. He was also now indicating that donations may have been made to party clubs, candidates or mayors.
