Maltese lira banknotes  with a value of Lm21.4million (€49.9m) remained in circulation at the end of last year, th Central Bank reports in its recently-issued annual report.

The banknotes may still be exchanged at the Bank.

In addition Maltese lira coins that remained uncollected when their value expired last year had a value of Lm11.1 million (€25.9m).

The Bank last year sold 94.7 million Matese lira coins for their intrinsic metal value.
