Bank of Valletta is financing the development of 12 apartments in Sutton that will accommodate families of children receiving treatment for cancer at the nearby Royal Marsden Hospital.

The apartments will be developed by the Puttinu Cares Cancer Support Group.

BoV and Puttinu Cares have also initiated procedures to set up a trust to guarantee the sustainability of Puttinu Cares. Through this trust, Puttinu Cares will benefit from the bank’s expertise in financial management and also ensure transparency in governance.

The announcement was made by BoV chief officer, operations, Michael Galea, and Puttinu Cares founder and consultant Victor Calvagna.

Set up in 2002 by Dr Calvagna and Rennie Zerafa, Puttinu Cares Cancer Support Group offers a holistic approach of care for families of children suffering from cancer.

Dr Calvagna said the new project would eliminate logistical and financial hurdles for families who are already burdened with the challenges of illness. With the peace of mind the accommodation will bring, they can focus on caring for their loved ones.
