The Malta International Fireworks festival will be held at Grand Harbour next week.

Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco said the festival marked the start of the summer tourism season and  the festive season in Malta.

The festival, he said, demonstrated the internationally-acclaimed pyrotechnics capabilities of the Maltese.

The festival will start on April 29 at 9 p.m. with a pyro-musical display by Veneuegos Fireworks, followed by a competition between St Nicholas Factory of Siggiewi and Our Lady of Consolation, Gudja.

There will then be displays by St Mary Fireworks Factory, Pyrovision Ltd of Austria and a musical show by William Mangion and Claudia Faniello.

The entertainment will be given from a stage which is being set up at Ta’ Liesse. Speakers for the s synchronised display are being placed along the harbour.

On Saturday, the programme starts with a display by tal-Gilju Factory of Mqabba, followed by a competition between the factories of Lourdes (Qrendi, St Mary (Mgarr) and La Stella (Gudja).

Other displays, by Mount Carmel Factory of Zurrieq and the Parente Fireworks Group of Italy follows.
