A third man was yesterday arraigned in connection with the burglary from the house of two elderly sisters in Paola on Sunday.
Egyptian Ibrahim Hafes Ibrahim El Digwi, 45, of Xagħra, pleaded not guilty to the theft, which happened while 86-year-old Lorenza Cilia and her sister Tereża, 78, were in church.
Magistrate Audrey Demicoli remanded him in custody in view of the fact that the main witnesses still had to testify.
Mr El Digwi’s arraignment follows that of Maurizio Zahra, 31, and Johan Pace, 34, both of Valletta, who on Monday admitted to carrying out the burglary. They are awaiting judgment.
The police said on Sunday they had spotted a suspicious car speeding off from the elderly sisters’ residence. They followed the car and arrested Mr Zahra and Mr Pace shortly afterwards.
