A man was this morning fined €10 for giving wrong particulars to the police when he went to a police station on an errand for his employer.

The court heard that James Micallef, 27, of St Paul's Bay was sent by his employer, Adrian Gomez Blanco, to pick up a court summons from Rabat police station on his behalf.

Mr Micallef went to the station and on telling the police that he was Mr Gomez Blanco, he was arrested and put ina police car.

On the way to police headquarters, Mr Micallef broke down, told the police the truth and showed them his identity card.

He was this morning charged with giving false particulars and hindering police investigations.

He pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera found him guilty of giving false particulars but not of hindering police investigations.
