President George Abela thanked volunteers for their service to society today when he  visited Dar Pirotta - a residential and respite home for people with disabilities in Birkirkara.

The home is a public-private partnership which has benefited from funds raised in the last two editions of  L-Istrina. The money was used for the building of a lift and renovation of parts of the home to increase its capacity and facilities. A van was also purchased.

The home is run by Fr Charles Abela and a number of volunteers. It accommodates 10 residents and has respite facilities for six.
