A health commissioner is to be appointed within the Office of the ombudsman to safeguard the rights of patients, Health Minister Joseph Cassar said today.

Speaking during a conference on patients rights today, Dr Cassar outlined the importance of well informed patients.

Information, he said, was the centrepoint if their empowerment.

"I'm sorry to say that sometimes patients don't ask enough and I appeal to more patients to do this," he said.
