The anti-divorce lobby group has threatened legal action over what it perceives to be “a campaign of bullying” by those who want divorce.
The group took particular offence at the fact that their views of the common good were recently likened to those of the Nazis.
The link was first made by former Labour MEP candidate Marlene Mizzi, who during a debate last week read out part of the manifesto of Adolf Hilter’s Nazi party where it says the common good should take precedence over individual rights.
The Marriage without Divorce movement referred to the Yes for Divorce movement as “Divorce without Reason”.
It said it was “seriously concerned” by the persistent campaign against those who disagree with the pro-divorce movement, adding that for the third time the concept of the common good was compared to Nazism. The movement did not specify where this last reference was made.
The zeal for Nazism being shown was not only worrying but disrespectful to the millions of innocent people who suffered under this belief that was being given so much prominence.
“This is nothing but clear proof of how the divorce law being proposed lacks reason,” the movement claimed, adding that the pro-divorce lobby was simply trying to erode the value of permanent marriage.
The movement added that the concept of the common good has been used for hundreds of years by the best thinkers of the world including many Popes and statesmen.
It called on all those taking part in the divorce debate to be more mature and respect the different opinions of others, putting an end to such bullying for good.
“If ethical and moral values do not open the minds of these exponents, the Marriage without Divorce Movement will ask to the Police Commissioner to begin legal proceedings against those who continue to persist with these disparaging comments.”
