I am generally in agreement with Revel Barker on the mode of transport to Gozo, even if I am not quite in agreement that a fourth vessel is necessary in order to increase frequency of ferry sailings to every half hour during the day and one hour sailings after midnight. It is my view that this could also be achieved for most of the time on most days of the year with the existing three ferries, albeit at quite an additional cost in labour resources and fuel consumption.

On the other hand, Mr Barker’s argument would have been more credible when referring to “those apparently impoverished people from the south island who pretend to live in Gozo in order to benefit from a cheaper tariff” if he also included in this equation islanders from the north who decide to retire or reside in Gozo for whatever reason or circumstance.
