NGOs reiterate concern over Ramla proposal
A developer plans to build 23 villas with pools on the hill sloping down to Ramla Bay.
Two NGOs have once again challenged an application to build 23 villas with pools at Ramla Bay in Gozo and expressed disappointment that the planning authority has granted developers another chance to further their appeal.
Plans to build 23 villas with pools on the hillside sloping down to Ramla Bay were approved in 2007, but following a national outcry the permit was subsequently rescinded on grounds, the developers’ declaration that the site was all private land was incorrect.
Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar and Save Ramla Group claimed the appeal was being heard even though the developers had paid only a fraction of the appeal fees.
During the hearing held in Gozo last Thursday, the developers also admitted that the small parcel of land in question was not their property, stating that they had a Planning Control Application in order to apply to change the designation of this land so they could build on it, the NGOs said.
FAA and Save Ramla renewed their call for public support of their campaign to save the picturesque surroundings of the bay from development.
“If this permit is issued, the building up of the whole Ramla headland will be inevitable,” they warned.

The time has come to expose all these entrepreneurs who only have "the good of Gozo at heart" for what they are, money grabbing leeches - including the incumbent politicians on this island.
If we didn't know before - stupid us - we can surely see now that MEPA and the government never had any intention to block this application - only to pretend to do so, perhaps waiting for a more lucrative incentive? Cars are expensive to run after all.
So much for eco-Gozo!

I would urge everyone to support FAA in their efforts to stop this development going ahead. I can't understand the thinking of MEPA or the Government in even considering this application. Do they want to totally destroy every part of the island for no other reason than greed? The beauty of Ramla Bay and Hondoq Bay should be left unspoilt for future generations of Gozitans, Maltese and tourists to enjoy.

Nowhere in the world that I am aware of can you apply for Planning Permission on property you do not own, this is just ridiculous. Gozo needs a development like this like a hole in head, what add to the 1000s of empty properties. This is a classic property bubble, it’s just taking a little while to bust, but it’s coming.
