Ta’ Xbiex council has introduced the existing Residents Parking Scheme after due consultation with all the relevant authorities and in the interestof the residents, including the business community.
The time limit parking scheme is also specifically meant for clients of shops and offices in the locality. In this way, short-time parking facilitates the flow of business.
All residents, including offices and business entities, have been informed more than once that non-organic waste (for recycling) is collected on Tuesdays andFridays. Black bags are collected on the remaining weekdays.
Unfortunately, some residents and offices have been ignoring these arrangements. Black bags are still illegally being taken out for collection on Tuesdays and Fridays.
These are inspected in the presence of the police or green wardens in order to identify those who fail to cooperate. Since this scheme was introduced, Ta’ Xbiex council has achieved the second-best waste separation results in Malta.
Also, separation bins (bring-in sites) have been set up in four areas in our locality to accommodate residents and the business community.
Joanne Grima of Marsascala (and, therefore, not a resident in my locality) seems to be unaware of the fact that my council has adhered to the regulations issued by the government, which are also compliant with EU regulations.
The success of the new arrangements depends on the cooperation of all residents and the increasing number of business establishments operating in our locality.
