A 32-year-old man from Gzira this morning pleaded not guilty to a series of robberies including from an elderly woman.

Noel Farrugia was sent to the Forensic Unit at Mount Carmel Hospital according to instructions given by Mater Dei's Psychiatric Unit, where the accused had spent a day after swallowing a number of pills.

Inspector Sandra Zammit charged Mr Farrugia with attacking and injuring two women, stealing the handbag of one of them and attempting to steal that of the other, and stealing from a residence in Qormi, where he also caused damage.

He was also charged with damaging a car, breaching the peace, relapsing and breaching bail conditions.
