This weekend’s other matches....

Sliema Wanderers vs Vittoriosa Stars (today at 3 p.m., Hibs Stadium).

This match has become a formality after Vittoriosa Stars lost their relegation fight following their nerve-wracking 2-2 draw with Qormi last weekend.

Nevertheless, both Vittoriosa and Sliema Wanderers will be aiming to end their season on a winning note.

Already assured of top spot in the Relegation Pool, Sliema will be chasing their sixth win in seven matches since Danilo Doncic took charge of the team.

The Serb could be without two of his first-squad goalkeepers as Henry Bonello is struggling with back pain and Ini Aktpan, who has extended his deal with Sliema for another year, was sick during the week.

Josef Mifsud, Alex Muscat and Miguel Ciantar are still sidelined with injuries but captain Mark Scerri returns.

Vittoriosa coach Winston Muscat will make at least one change from last week’s draw with Qormi as Brazilian defender Murilo Maccari is out with an ad-ductor injury.

Tarxien Rainbows vs Floriana (today at 5 p.m., Hibs Stadium).

Floriana start as favourites to win and boost their quest for European football but three points are also a must for Tarxien if they want to revive their hopes of a top-three finish.

Michael Woods, the Floriana coach, is hopeful of having Christian Caruana available as the playmaker is nearing the com-pletion of his recovery from an adductor problem.

Thomas Paris sustained a slight groin injury in the 1-1 draw with Marsaxlokk but is expected to be fit to play today.

Tarxien will be looking to make amends for their 5-1 mauling at the hands of Floriana in their last meeting. Luke Vella Critien is out with groin problem but otherwise, coach Noel Coleiro has a full squad at his disposal.

Results so far: Tarxien vs Floriana 2-0, 3-1, 1-5.

Birkirkara vs Ħamrun Spartans (tomorrow at 3 p.m., National Stadium).

Having returned to winning ways with a 3-0 dismissal of Tarxien, Birkirkara are widely tipped to ease past a Ħamrun Spartans side whose faltering morale has been further compounded by a lengthening injury list.

Defender Andrei Agius is back in the frame for Birkirkara after suspension kept him out of the last game. There are doubts over Shaun Bajada’s participation after the midfielder slightly injured his ankle last weekend. Patrick Borg is also doubtful.

If Birkirkara coach Paul Zammit can virtually bank on a full squad, not so can be said of his Ħamrun counterpart Steve D’Amato who is without Martin Hrubsa, Lee James Agius, Jovan Vukanic and Dene Shields.

Dylan Kokavessis could also miss tomorrow’s game due to injury while Dyson Falzon, who missed the 5-0 rout to Valletta because of suspension, is doubtful after picking up a knock in training.

Qormi vs Hibs (Monday at 7.30 p.m., Hibs Stadium).

Only pride is at stake for these two teams after both made sure of keeping their Premier League status before their final league match.

Mark Miller and Stephen Azzopardi, the respective coaches of Hibs and Qormi, will not field their strongest team on Monday as both will be without key players.

It emerged this week that Hibs have parted ways with Paul McManus, Brian Fairbairn and Abdelilah Taki while Richie Hart and Matthew Clarke are ruled out by suspension.

Goalkeeper Daniel Balzan, Jean Paul Farrugua, Bjorn Kristensen and Steve Pisani are still recuperating from injuries.

Qormi also have a long casualty list as the likes of Abubakar Bello-Osagie, Stefan Giglio, goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia, George Mallia and Luke Sciberras are out of the equation while Cleaven Frendo, Matthew Bartolo and Ben Camil-leri rated as doubtful.

On the plus side, Belgian defender Jason Lee Vandelannoite and South Korean wing-back Kang Hojung are back in con-tention for a first-team place after serving suspension.

Veteran midfielder Keith Fenech is expected to announce his retirement from football after this game.
