Event aims to raise funds for a good cause

Tomorrow sees the start of the eagerly-awaited Angie Bajada Table Tennis fund-raising event, organised by the Table Tennis Academy Malta at the Civil Service Sports Club in Archbishop Street, Valletta.

The Table Tennis Academy is holding a series of competitions aimed at players of all levels in order to reach out to the entire table tennis community.

Tomorrow, veterans and hobby players will set the ball rolling followed by Malta’s junior players.

On Sunday, the Under-18 event will be followed by the Open first division and second division leading to a climax involving the country’s leading 10 players. Daniel Bajada, Angela’s brother, will be among the contenders for the top spot.

The Malta Table Tennis Association has also approved a donation per participant and is also assisting in various ways along with MITTC, Aloysians TT Centre and PBC Coaching Clinic.

Funds are required urgently to support Angie’s rehabilitation from a serious motorcycle accident last year. Her family, who are also avid table tennis enthusiasts, will be helping out throughout this weekend’s event.

The committee is seeking to generate funds to allow Angie’s parents to bring their daughter back home and hopefully step up her recovery.

In a statement, the Table Tennis Academy appealed to the general public to participate in the various fun games in store this weekend and support this noble cause.

All the money donated by the participants will go directly into Angie Bajada’s fund as the whole event is being financed by the Table Tennis Academy.
