Ramla Bay developers given two months to file application

A planning appeals board has given developers two months to submit a planning control application for their proposal to build 23 villas and pools overlooking Ramla Bay in Gozo.

The developers had argued before the planning authority appeals board that they had submitted a planning control application to change the designation of the land.

However, the planning authority defence lawyer said that no application had been filed.

The appeal was filed after the planning authority withdrew a permit after finding that incorrect information had been given by the developers, since part of the footprint of the proposed project would be on land which is public, not private.

The board yesterday gave the developers until July to get the signatures of the owners of this land and submit a planning control application. Failure to do this would nullify the appeal. Representatives of two environmental NGOs, Save Ramla and Flimkien Għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA), complained that the hearing was carrying on even though the developers had only paid a fraction of the fees when the appeal started.

Earlier this week, FAA launched a fundraising campaign to save Ramla Bay and appealed for donations, which can be made through a text message on 5061 8079 (€4.66), 5061 9226 (€11.65) or through a direct debit donation at www.faa.org.mt/donate or by credit card on https://faa.trolleymania.com.
