Opposition members Charles Mangion and Karmenu Vella yesterday presented a motion for the House to discuss the “real situation” of Maltese investment and investors in Libya.

Dr Mangion is the opposition’s main spokesman for economic development while Mr Vella is responsible for finance.

The motion notes that the situation in Libya has a negative impact not only on Libyan citizens but also on Maltese investors, their employees and the Maltese economy.

They said that as the Maltese government had shown goodwill to help in the bailouts of foreign countries and companies, similarly it should show the same attitude in helping the Maltese affected by the Libyan crisis without adding new burdens on Maltese and Gozitan taxpayers.
