A 25-year-old Russian man was yesterday remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to importing 2.5 kilogrammes of heroin in the false bottom of his suitcase.

Dmitrijus Zdorovcevas pleaded not guilty to conspiring to import the drugs, importing, trafficking and possession of the substance in circumstances which denote it was not for his exclusive use. The police said yesterday that the accused was arrested by customs officers and the police at the airport on Monday evening after a flight from Brussels.

The drugs were found in a false bottom of his suitcase.

Police Inspector Johann Fenech prosecuted.
