The trees being placed at the new bus terminus in Valletta are costing Transport Malta €5,340 each, excluding VAT,  Transport Minister Austin Gatt said.

The contract was awarded to ELC Ltd, he said in reply to a parliamentary question.

It was reported earlier this month that the new bus terminus at St James Ditch is to have 26 Italian stone pine trees, which will provide natural shelter from direct sunlight especially during the summer months.

The trees, whose planting has just started,  are between 15 and 20 years old. They are the same kind that adorn the Coliseum in Rome and their main feature is the long trunk which does not create any obstacles for the heritage around them.
