The last time Ray Fenech went to the San Franġisk animal hospital in Ta’ Qali it was to put down his 11-year-old dog Pooch, which was suffering from cancer.
In an attempt to ease the dog’s suffering, Mr Fenech had ordered hundreds of euros worth of medicines to improve its immune system but they were held up at Customs as they required an import licence.
The treats, ironically, were released a few days after Pooch passed away.
Now, Mr Fenech has donated five packets of the treats to the San Franġisk hospital to aid another dog with cancer.
“Every time I go there it’s a sacrifice, as the last time I did so it was to put the dog to sleep. It’s not an easy thing,” Mr Fenech said.
The 53-year-old has had a dog in his life ever since he was 16 and plans to adopt yet another from the SPCA once he returns from a trip abroad.
