Tourists were evacuated from some of their rooms at the Victoria Hotel in Sliema early this morning after smoke was noticed in the seventh floor.

A spokesman for the hotel said a dehumidifier had overheated in the indoor pool area.

The tourists were evacuated at about 5 a.m. as three fire engines from the Civil Protection Department arrived on the scene. No one was injured and most of the tourists were able to return to their rooms within an hour.

CPD Director Patrick Murgo supervised the operation.
