BirdLife report shot marsh harrier in Ħondoq
BirdLife Malta said this marsh harrier was shot and found in Ħondoq. Photo: BirdLife
A rambler found a male marsh harrier suffering from a gunshot wound in Ħondoq last week, BirdLife said. The harrier was the fifth shot protected bird passed on to BirdLife over the past month and another eight protected birds were seen flying with gunshot injuries, the organisation said.
The injured marsh harrier was only the tip of the iceberg, BirdLife said, encouraging people who witnessed such incidents to report them.

I once again stipulate that I am not a hunter but I, along with many others, will take note of the photograph published and see how many more times the same photo will be used by BLM and published

You do not need to take note of the photo, just go to Hondoq ir-Rummien and tell me if you do not hear gun shots at some time or another during the day. I was there last Sunday for not more than 1 hour and heard 3 shots in the morning. Stop blaming the messenger and blame the culprits.

@Edward Camilleri
Can't see how your comment relates to mine. Having said that, I can only assume that you can prove that the shots that you heard came from hunters guns CAN YOU ??????????

It matters little how often you "stipulate" (whatever you may think it means) that you are not a hunter, you clearly reason like one: instead of deploring the crime and the sheer waste of such beauty, you tell us about how you intend keep track of a picture!

Welcome to Malta and its bird free environment as usual. May these neanderthals be proud of themselves for emptying the skies. SHAME ON THEM.

dear GonziPN
the shooting of PROTECTED birds is happening even during the supposedly CLOSED season.
If such hunters have the gall to shoot at such birds - even if their shots will stand out like a soar thumb during the closed season - it is no rocket science what they will be up to during the weeks when shots are 'acceptable' to GonziPN
In the meantime notwithstanding the lip service, and the thousands of hunters littering the countryside over the coming weeks - FKNK has to date not only failed to hand over to the police details of those criminal hunters, but on the contrary had the cheek to attack CABs who are effectively carrying on this thankless task.

Strange to note that BLM chose to show us the 5th shot bird, however when the legal spring hunting season opens, poachers will have less chances.

Less chances? Beg to differ - they will have MORE.
There shots will blast with the others - thus they will not stand out.
Over the years, not even one of the criminal hunters was identified by his peers out hunting - so much for the hollow claims of conservationists.
The question is asked again....
Why are hunters & FKNK so shy to identify, report, and hand over documented evidence to police, so that these criminal hunters can be effectively prosecuted?
Is it a question of being AFRAID (of social/cultural gifts from their peers) or OUTNUMBERED ?

@ J.Borg, how many thieves, drug abusers, child molesters, reckless drivers, tax evaders, corruption, etc etc have you identified so far? Instead of sitting on your arm chair why don't you take a camera and identify them yourself. We paid 50 each euros to enforce the LEGAL hunting regulations, how much did you pay?

Mr. Formosa,
I believe we are discussing hunting and the killing of protected birds- thus if you wish to discuss the other plagues choose a different page, so as not to digress.
You are making unilateral assumptions about my involvement or otherwise, nonetheless I just give you a lead.... I have come across a number of hunters who showed the complete opposite of the social and cultural virtues they proclaim to profess. I also invite you to read your own ‘far from encouraging’ comments about the CABs watch that, at least, did manage to document the hunting abuses which hunters continue to dismiss and/or excuse.
My family has private property in the countryside – but we cannot peacefully and sustainably enjoy our own property – let alone admire birds – thanks to hunters.
I pay taxes, thus I expect that I have a right to factually sustainably enjoy also what is public. My pastime does not involve killing or exploiting other creatures, and I do not steal anything for my own pleasure. If only you can say likewise.
