A reception was held recently at Marlborough House, London, as part of the celebrations with the Commonwealth theme, ‘Women as agents of change’.

It was hosted by Commonwealth secretary general Kamalesh Sharma and his wife Babli Sharma, in the presence of Queen Elizabeth.

Doris Bingley, general secretary of the Malta NationalCouncil of Women and member of the Common-wealth Women’s Network, was invited to the event for her contribution to gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Commonwealth.

Ms Bingley gave a presentation to Queen Elizabeth to highlight aspects of thetheme in economic andsocial transformation, justice and good governance andthe Commonwealth Plan of Action for Gender Equality2005 – 2015.
