Cloud computing was the focus of Microsoft Malta’s Innovation Day at the Hilton Malta in St Julian’s earlier this month.

The event was themed ‘Be what’s next… with cloud power” and its main aim was to raise awareness of cloud computing and related academic, business and technological aspects.

The forum showcased how local companies are innovating in the ‘cloud’ but also provided participants with an opportunity to learn about the latest cloud technologies from Microsoft .

Microsoft Europe chairman Jan Muhlfeit said exponential growth was changing everything: it was the first time in history when the young generation was using technology much better than the present generation.

“Cloud computing will attract this young generation and once this happens, the economy will change. In five years from now, we envisage that 80 per cent of jobs will require a form of e-skill. Those countries which will invest the most in innovation and design will be the most successful.”

Participants were also addressed by newly appointed country manager Adrianna Zammit and developer and platform technical lead Karl Davies-Barrett.
