McLaren's Lewis Hamilton topped final practice ahead of today's qualifying session for the Malaysian grand prix.
His time of 1m36.340s was just 0.290s better than the Red Bull of Mark Webber, yesterday's pace setter.
McLaren's Jenson Button was third followed by Heidfeld (Renault), Vettel (Red Bull) and Alonso (Ferrari).
Vettel showed good pace throughout the session but was caught in traffic in the final lap.
Qualifying, and tomorrow's race, are at 10 a.m. (Malta time).
