Further to my letter published on April 30 (Hazard In Homes From New Gas Cylinders), I am now obliged to list some “thank yous”.

The first goes to Liquigas for their very prompt reply and apology to the public for putting on the market defective gas cylinders. It shows that, contrary to my original letter, they are very responsible and efficient.

Second thank you goes to the Malta Resources Authority for eagerly explaining how the defective cylinders were approved. I hasten to add that, at last, we have one of the many authorities which are gobbling so much taxpayers’ money delivering.

Third thank you goes to the Civil Protection Department for their information and instructions on how to act in case of an accident with these green gas cylinders.

Come down to earth, you fool! As very usual in Malta, nothing will be done until an accident happens. It seems that the only solution is to resort to “people’s power”.

I suggest that anyone who really believes in the welfare of his dearest (wife, children, parents, neighbours, friends etc) sends an e-mail indicating the inherent dangers associated with the green gas cylinders; secondly, asks them not to accept the green cylinders when buying from Liquigas; if you already have one, ask the supplier to change it to a normal yellow one; and, if the supplier insists on giving you a green one, ask him to give you free of charge a new regulator and offer to give him your old one in exchange.

To send this e-mail, to everyone you know, which you can cut and paste, will only take you a few seconds, seconds that can save a life and much, much hassle.
