Hours before the singer’s concert at the Valletta Waterfront, The Times checks out the new album Some Kind of Trouble

When award-winning star James Blunt debuted on the international scene, it didn’t take too long for him to become known for his highly emotive ballads, mostly revolving around the theme of love gone wrong. But with the new album, Some Kind of Trouble, making waves on the music charts everywhere, James Blunt is now in danger of becoming known as Mr Happy!

In a recent interview with celebrity site Popeater.com, the singer explained that fans were pleasantly surprised with this upbeat and energetic album. Even the technique of song-writing has changed for the star, who commands the loyalty of millions of fans worldwide.

Whereas past and moody ballads were written on acoustic guitar, most of the new album is based on electric guitar with basses and amps.

“It gave me the chance to write more upbeat songs… I had far too much fun in the studio,” he told Popeater.com

The new album’s first single, Stay The Night, was written together with producer Steve Robson and Ryan Tedder. The song is all about living in California. In James Blunt’s own words, “it’s about hanging out with your friends (in California) and not wanting the night to end”.

The video was in fact filmed in California and is a guaranteed feel-good track. Stay The Night is also probably one of the songs that Maltese fans are most eager to experience this evening. James Blunt is visiting Malta as part of his European tour – the singer has been touring for the past months and has been greeted by hordes of screaming fans eager to be part of the whole James Blunt mania.
