Last Saturday’s quaterno jackpot winner will be buying a house for his mother, on whose insistence he has been playing the same numbers for some time.
Jesmond Grima, of Hamrun, won €640,000 with the numbers 16 – 20 – 46 and 90. He bought his ticket on the day before the draw from an agent in St Paul’s Bay.
He said when he went to collect his cheque that he had been playing the same numbers for some time on his mother’s insistence.
Mr Grima said he would now buy his mother, who has been living in a rather damp place, a house.
“After my father’s death, she has worked even harder to raise us up so she deserves it,” he said with emotion.
Maltco Lotteries general director Mario Cassar said that since the enhancements introduced two years ago, the Quaterno has steadily increased in popularity.
This saw the Jackpot increase to a minimum of €200,000 and gave players more chances of winning.
