Floriana mayor Nigel Holland’s reaction to my letter (Floriana Residents’ Traffic Nightmare Continues, March 12) and consequent drubbing is exactly what I expected and ironically, hoped for. Indeed my letter was especially formulated to provoke such a reply. The mayor’s fierce letter (Access To Floriana During Public Events, April 1) exposes Transport Malta and the police’s lack of sensibility towards the local populace. I assure Mr Holland, a long-time friend, that I appreciate the Floriana local council’s painstaking work for the benefit of the residents and our beautiful and unique town and urge them to continue in their mission. He knows that I humbly try to do my bit as well.

As for his parting shot, I approve that major public events be held in the locality so long as every effort is made to limit the impact on the residents and territory.
