Gallagher’s band records charity track

Liam Gallagher’s new band Beady Eye is to release a cover of Beatles classic Across The Universe to help with disaster relief in Japan.

The group performed the song at a fundraising show in London last night, a day after recording the track.

The Fab Four’s original version of the song was also a charity recording, raising cash for the WWF on the album No One’s Gonna Change Our World.

The Beady Eye track – recorded during an eight-hour session – will be available through the band’s website with £0.62 going to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

The band was on the bill for the Japan Disaster Benefit at London’s Brixton Academy, alongside Primal Scream, The Coral and Paul Weller.

The show has raised more than £150,000.

After The Beatles’ charity version of Across The Universe, written by John Lennon, it was later re-recorded and included on the Let It Be album.
