Operatic chart stars Il Divo are to be honoured at the Classic Brit Awards next month with an honorary award recognising them as the “artistes of the decade”.

The quartet are being given the newly-created accolade to mark the impact they have had worldwide on the classical music world.

International group Il Divo – launched by Simon Cowell – have sold more than 25 million copies of their four albums, including 50 number ones globally.

They will be presented with the award at the Classic Brits – formerly known as the Classical Brits – at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 12.

They will also perform, marking their first live UK show since 2008.

The group’s David Miller said: “Performing and recording are what we love, but receiving this award is a great honour.”

The Classic Brits will be hosted for the fourth consecutive year by Myleene Klass.
