Fraudsters are knocking on doors asking for money in aid of Puttinu Cares, sometimes even showing pictures of children in need, according to the organisation that raises funds for children with cancer.
“No one is authorised to go to people’s houses to collect donations for our organisation,” Puttinu Cares said, appealing to the public not to give money to these people and report them to the police.
From the information gathered, people were presenting letters without the organisation’s letterhead and others were showing pictures of supposedly sick children who needed care, it said, adding that a number of towns and villages were being targeted.
This is the second organisation to alert the public to such fraudsters roaming the streets in less than a month. Id-Dar tal-Providenza last month asked the public not to give money to door-to-door fundraisers after it received reports of people fraudulently collecting funds in this way.
Meanwhile, Puttinu Cares announced the creation of an online business directory where companies can list their contact details together with their logo and short write-up against a small fee.
Those wishing to join the online directory, www.maltesebusinessdirectory.com, may call 9966 1616.
