Paint attack on retiree’s house

This is the second time green paint has been thrown on the front door and facade of Mr Navarro's house.

An senior citizen in Attard who was the victim of a late-night paint attack on his home while he was asleep has defiantly declared that he will not be intimidated.

Anthony Navarro was shocked to discover green paint splashed all over his front door and surrounding wall at around 7 a.m. yesterday.

This is the second time paint has been thrown at Mr Navarro’s house close to San Anton Palace – he was the victim of a similar attack involving green paint in 2002. Police investigated that attack but no arrests were made.

Although Mr Navarro could not say for certain who carried out the attacks, he said he was often forced to complain about noise emanating from two nearby bars and someone may have been aggrieved.

“It is like living in Paceville here, we’re kept awake every night till at least 3 a.m. Customers leave the establishments at around 1 or 2 a.m. but then they remain in the area, talking and laughing outside our homes,” said Mr Navarro. Although he won a court case two years ago to force the establishments to stop playing music after 11 p.m., the retiree told The Sunday Times his complaints to the local council and police about noise levels from customers often fell on deaf ears, leaving residents feeling powerless.

No other properties in the area have been targeted by paint attacks and Mr Navarro said the neighbourhood does not have a problem with vandalism.

He said many local residents complained to the police anonymously about noise levels in the area, but he was the only one to do it in his name. “Whoever did this has failed to frighten me – I will not be intimidated,” he said.

Camilleri

What a poor soul you are!
During the day one expects others to carry out works - whereas during the night one expects to have a night's rest.
Others can dance and drink the night away as much as they like - so long as they do not disturb the majority of the other people's sleep.

A Camilleri everyone has the right to peace and not to be disturbed in his house. When are the authorities going to revoke all these bars permits and close down all bars and such places that are in built-up areas? Why should citizens suffer because someone decides to open up a bar or other noisy or smelly outlet in built-up areas? Are the authorities as usual waiting for a serious incident where citizens take the law in their own hands through being frustrated by their constant harassment without the authorities lifting a finger?
