The second day of the European Team Championship yielded more positive results as the hosts’ top teams maintained their unbeaten run at the Dolmen Hotel yesterday.
Tony Drago, Alex Borg and Duncan Bezzina were again in dominant form as they cruised past Polish trio Krzysztof Wrobel, Rafal Gorecki and Marci Nitschke 10-2 to make it three successive victories in Group A.
In the evening session, Malta 1 kept their winning momentum when they outclassed Cyprus players Anthony Brabin, Costas Konnaris and Jack Neofytou 10-4.
Richard Lewis, Philip Ciantar and Andre Pace (Malta 4) broke their in Group A when they saw off Ireland’s Nigel Power, Clinton Franey and Gavin Stokes 10-5.
Clayton Castaldi, Mario Brincat and Frans Mintoff are also unbeaten in Group B. Yesterday they recorded two victories over Iceland and Israel 1.
In the morning session, Malta 2 whitewashed Iceland’s Joha-nnes Johannesson, Unnar Bragason and Thorri Jennson 10-0. They were again in action later on in the evening and had to battle past Israeli players Roey Fernandez. Davod Vaotz and Shay Arama 10-8.
In Group C, Malta 3, composed of Stephen Mangion, Mario Cutajar and Daniel Wells, chalked up their second win after they beat French players Jean Pierre Auzias, Stephane Ochoiski and Rene Vaxelaire 10-2.
In the masters tournament, Joe Grech and Simon Zammit made it two wins from two after they overcame Belgium duo Rene Hemelsoet and Erwin Goethais 5-2.
Tony Mifsud and Ivan Rizzo, who on Wednesday opened up their commitments with an impressive 5-0 win over Russia, yesterday maintained their positive form when they saw off French players Marc Chouiller and Daniel Sperandio 5-0.
In the women’s tournament, Roberta Cutajar and Svetlana Ciantar are still in search of their first win after going down to Germany 4-0 and France 4-1.
