Global brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev won a round yesterday in its long-running legal battle with a Czech rival to secure the “Bud” trademark in Europe.

The European Court of Justice sent the case back to the General Court for a new ruling, saying the lower tribunal made mistakes in siding with Czech brewer Budejovicky Budvar in its bid to block AB Inbev from securing the Bud name.

The decision is the latest chapter in an old feud between the beer giant and Czech brewer Budejovicky Budvar over rights to the names “Budweiser” and “Bud.”

The European Court of Justice ruled in July that AB InBev cannot register the Budweiser name in Europe.
