Between September 2010 and February 2011, Transport Malta officials carried out 1,526 road checks in 23 localities.

The checks yielded 857 cases of vehicles not conformant to stipulated rules.

During such checks the TM officials inspected brakes, steering, visibility, lighting and electrical systems, axles, wheels, tyres and suspension, chassis and attachments and other aspects, including tachygraphic and speed limiting equipment, and negative effects including emissions and leakages of fuel and/or oil.

The information was given by Transport Minister Austin Gatt when he answered a parliamentary question by MP Ċensu Galea (PN).
