The Police Corps currently has specialised cassette audio recording equipment to record police interrogations simultaneously on three cassettes.

Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici gave the information in reply to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Franco Debono, who had asked what video and audio recording equipment the police had for use during interrogations. He had also asked if there were plans for upgrading of the equipment’s quantity or quality.

Dr Mifsud Bonnici said the equipment was generally used during investigations of criminal offences of a certain gravity. It was planned to upgrade the equipment in the future.

The minister made no mention of video recording of interrogations.
