The setting up of a new faculty dealing with media and knowledge sciences was announced yesterday by the University of Malta Rector, Juanito Camilleri.

The faculty will incorporate and extend the work done by the Centre for Communication Technology.

It will consist of six departments including a Department of Media and Communications headed by Rev. Prof. Saviour Chircop, planning to offer a post-graduate degree in media and English.

Dr William Zammit will be coordinating the Department of Library Information and Archive Sciences while Prof. Albert Caruana will lead the Department of Corporate Communications.

Acknowledging the impact of new technologies, the faculty will have a Department of Digital Arts led by Dr Vince Briffa while a Department of Cognitive Science will be set up and headed by Dr Noellie Brockdorff. Prof. Joe Cannataci will lead the Department of Information Policy and Governance.
