Birkirkara goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo can play in Sunday’s BOV Premier League game against Floriana after the Malta FA overturned his one-match ban yesterday, sources told The Times.

Bartolo had been punished after referee Andre Arciola reported the former Msida goalkeeper for not shaking his hands prior to Birkirkara’s 4-1 win over Marsaxlokk at the Hibs Stadium earlier this month.

The MFA Disciplinary Commissioner’s initial decision to impose a one-match ban on Bartolo irritated Birkirkara who asked the Malta FA to reconsider the decision, citing a misinterpretation of the regulations.

After looking into Birkirkara’s request, the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner yesterday ruled in the champions’ favour and changed Bartolo’s one-match ban to a minimal fine.
