Injured paraglider suffers fractures but is doing well

Paraglider David Cassar suffered a broken arm and a leg in an accident that left him hanging from a cliff on Saturday, a friend said.

The fellow paraglider said Mr Cassar lost control of his glider because the wind was too light and he was close to the rock face.

The incident occurred at about 4.30 p.m. when Mr Cassar was paragliding over Dingli Cliffs. As he lost control, part of his equipment got stuck at the edge of a cliff and he crashed against the cliff face.

He was operated upon yes­terday but was “well”, his friend said.

“You can fall off a bicycle and break your leg and arm; it’s nothing serious,” he said, adding Mr Cassar would be leaving hospital and leading a normal life in a few months’ time.

Rescuers from the Civil Protection Department and the Armed Forces of Malta were called to the scene on Saturday to lift the paraglider as a medical team stood by.
