A conference on the Movimento Etico per la Difesa Internazionale del Crocifisso (Ethical Movement for the International Defence of the Crucifix – Medic) will be held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana, on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Mgr Charles Vella, Henry Frendo, Fr Peter Serracino Inglott, Anna Vella, Giorgio Silli and Roberto Mezzaroma will address the conference.
Medic was launched in Rome last July by Mr Mezzaroma, an architect, entrepreneur and former MEP, as a reaction to the possibility that crucifixes may be removed from Italian classrooms. The movement is a lay, non-profit and ecumenical organisation open to all those who see in the crucifix a symbol of reconciliation, love and sacrifice.
Medic aims to create a conscience of respect towards the crucifix, saying it is an undeniable fact that the crucifix is to be found at the roots of Europe’s cultural identity.
Medic’s next move is to insist with Unesco that the crucifix should be recognised as a Heritage of Mankind.
