Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg has condemned the bomb attack which ripped through a crowded Jerusalem bus stop, killing a British tourist and injuring 39 others on Wednesday.

“I condemn this disgusting attack in the strongest terms. There can be no justification for such an act,” Dr Borg said, sending condolences to those affected.

“I deeply regret the loss of life of Palestinians in Gaza and express my most serious concern at the escalating violence in the Strip. I condemn the recent mortar and rocket attacks out of the Gaza strip against the Israeli civilian population,” he added.

In the meantime, police in Jerusalem were on “the highest level of alert” as today the city is due to host thousands of runners for Jerusalem’s first-ever marathon, spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.
