Divorce is not just a mere second chance. Marriage is an essential pillar of society that contributes to a healthy society. Being pro-family is not about limiting other people’s choices; it is about fostering all families and society. Defending marriage is in fact a defence of all individuals.

On March 23, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando wrote an opinion piece and ended it with this question: “Is it morally acceptable to use your personal beliefs to justify the imposition of parameters for others when it comes to their liberty to pursue happiness and fulfilment?”

It may interest readers to know that this is almost exactly, word for word, what Rebecca Gomperts of the Dutch abortion ship Women On Waves told me when we met briefly a few years ago in the Cavalieri Hotel. Except the subject then was not divorce.

It worries me that the same arguments being used to justify divorce are identical to those we have sadly become used to dealing with in the debate on abortion. This is not to say that all pro-divorce persons are in favour of abortion but that many are just unaware of the facts.

Those who speak out in defence of the family and human life are often the target of vile personal insults and labelling by those who favour the legalisation of either one or both. I dare say that no amount of personal and often defamatory attacks should deter anyone from standing up and voicing their opinion in this very important matter.
