A French fighter aircraft has shot down a Libyan government warplane, ABC News is reporting this afternoon.

No further details were immediately available, but this would be the first time that Libyan forces would have violated the no-fly zone imposed by the United Nations a week ago.

France has deployed Rafale fighters and Mirage fighter-bombers to enforce the no-fly zone. The Mirages have also been attacking Libyan tanks.
