Malta’s leading airgun shooters continued to achieve excellent scores in their build-up to this year’s Liechtenstein GSSE.

William Vella hit a remarkable score of 587/600 to win the air-rifle event in style during last weekend’s competition at Bidnija, setting a new national record in this Olympic shooting event.

Marianna Kisvardai was also among the record-breakers. She finished with high scores of 576/600 and 384/400 to break new ground in the women’s air-rifle event. Lawrence Darmanin was third with a score of 536/400.

Meanwhile, in the air-pistol competition, Eleanor Bezzina extended her positive form.

She established a new national record in the women’s event with scores of 375/400 and 564/600 to finish ahead of Ray Cacciattolo (547/600), Emmanuel Grech (508/600 – a personal best), Martin Grech (480/600) and Josette Calleja (470/600 and 313/400).
